egnida were contracted to install solar PV systems across 12 care home properties for NPT Homes. Due to the impending cut in FiT tariff rates all installations had to be completed within a 10-week period, leaving very little time to mobilise. The project was complicated by DNO authority being required for a number of connections and further complexity arose with electrical upgrades threatening the project deadline.
The contract originally comprised of installs ranging from 20kW to 30kW across 10 care homes owned by NPT Homes. There were several obstacles that needed to be overcome throughout the project, from outdated electricals, poor quality roofing and a limited time-scale until the subsidy digression took effect. We quickly overcome all challenges being faced and as a result, NPT Homes asked us to complete installations on a further 2 care homes before the FiT subsidy was cut by 64%.
The project was a great success with all sites being completed on time and registered for the higher FiT rate. The total installed capacity across the 12 care homes was 284kW, with 1136 panels installed in just 10 weeks. The expected annual energy saving is more than £32,000, with an annual carbon saving of 153 tonnes. These savings extensively lower the operational costs for NPT Homes, helping to secure a source of on-site energy generation for the future.
“egnida worked with NPT Homes and Western Power the local DNO to co-ordinate and overcome a number of obstacles including upgrading the metered supplies from single phase to three phase in order to meet the tight deadlines.”
“egnida took over the meter installation work and without their assistance, we would have possibly missed out on a substantial income stream. NPT Homes were generally happy with the quality of work across a variety of different roof types, and in particular their “can do” attitude in achieving our deadline. It was great to work with a knowledgeable team and we are delighted that we chose a local Welsh based SME for this project.”
